Reconsidering Sustainability by Bridging Ecology & Economy

Ecology and Economy appear to be on parallel paths - paths that extend forward but never meet. As we search to find solutions that can affect the course of our climate crisis, it’s never been more important to understand the trends in conservation finance and explore new models of sustainability. Lucy Xu, W’13, Founder and CEO of The Port Global and Nicolas Picat Saridaki, lead partner in the Global Portal, believe there is an alternative business model where these two forces of Ecology and Economy can meet to unlock a new way to develop powerful and effective sustainability initiatives. In this presentation, The Port Global will unveil an alternative paradigm. Inspired by the ancient trade routes that made up the Silk Road, they are developing a model that will enable transnational exchanges that incur the lowest possible negative environmental effect while yielding the highest positive ecological and societal outcomes.
